Compensation awarded to injured miner
A Welsh miner has been awarded £105,000 due to an exposed coalface not being correctly supported before boring and causing a stone to fall and strike the worker in the back of the neck.
As he knelt down to get a tool a large piece of stone hit him on the back of his neck fracturing a vertebra in his cervical spine. Since the incident he has suffered on going pain and inflexibility in his back and neck causing his contract to be terminated. Unfortunately it is very difficult for a 55 year old to find a job with no experience and he has found that he isn’t even being considered for interviews.
