Care assistant wins 13500 compensation
A care assistant that works on a ward that deals mainly with elderly people has been awarded £13,500 in compensation after injuring her back.
A psychiatric patient with a violent history towards staff and had displayed erratic and unpredictable behaviour in the past was assigned to the wrong ward for treatment.
The care assistant arrived on the ward and saw the patient sitting on the window ledge trying to push himself off the ledge. The care assistant grabbed him and despite the man’s many attempts to get her to let go she managed to hold onto him until security could assist her.
The carer suffered back injuries caused by holding onto the patient and was off work for several months.
