Business Liability Insurance a must for Tradesman
The decision of a court to award compensation to a man who slipped on a flower petal at Marylebone Station, causing severe injuries, has highlighted the importance of tradesman public liability insurance, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
The case in London has left the stallholder whose flowers caused the accident worried about the costs she could be facing, is an example of how important public liability cover can be for any tradesman who deals directly with the public. A spokesman for the ABI said that public liability insurance would be sensible, and in some professions almost a necessity to have, even though it is not legally required. He went on to say that any tradesman who deals with the public where the potential for large payouts is prevalent, then cover should seriously be considered, as this case shows. For example doctors are at particular risk, as cases don’t come much bigger than for claims of medical negligence.
The benefits of public liability insurance are that they cover the tradesman/professional or businesses for damages awarded to members of the public or the legal costs involved due to the harm caused.
